Using Proven Beef Sires for the Dairy Herd

As dairy producers, we are constantly evaluating ways to add value to our business. A comprehensive Beef on Dairy breeding program is a great strategic avenue for genetic improvement and market diversification for dairy bull calves. Many of us in the dairy industry are using a strategic sexed-semen strategy, ultimately making only the right amount of replacement females. To truly capitalize on this strategy, maximizing the value of every pregnancy must be the goal, whether that pregnancy is for replacements or beef.

At Wulf Cattle, in conjunction with our Riverview dairies, we transform the ordinary dairy bull calf into a completely different animal, the BeefBuilder™. This dairy/beef crossbred calf is the result of hand-picked Limousin or Lim-flex sires and rigorous testing to meet proven standards prior to reaching the dairy. We use data-focused decision making to select only the right sires for our dairy cows. The Limousin sires yield the right calf for feedyard performance.

Breeding to Feeding™ is an exciting program developed to connect the supply and demand of BeefBuilder™ calves. For 10 years, we have been focusing on proving our beef sires, by testing in the Riverview dairy system with Jerseys, Holsteins, and cross-bred dairy cows for conception and calving ease. Wulf Cattle and Riverview, LLP have joined together for a full alignment between the beef and dairy segments, which allows us to have a complete system approach.

Why Use Breeding to Feeding™ Genetics for your dairy herd?
